PRESIDENT FOX OF MEXICO REINFORCES CULTURAL TOURISM WITH OFFICIAL OPENING OF ‘AZTECS’ EXHIBITION AT THE ROYAL ACADEMY OF ARTS, LONDON

The recent opening of the ‘Aztecs’ exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, inaugurated by President Fox of Mexico and supported by The Mexican Embassy and The Mexico Tourism Board, bears witness to his government and country’s dedication to promote Mexican culture and tourism within the UK.

Celebrating the largest collection of Aztec art ever to be shown outside Mexico, works include monumental sculptures and ceramics glazed in gold and semi-precious stones such as the Eagle Warrior and The God of the Underworld. Each unique exhibit reflects the roots of the Aztec culture, one that is still popular in today’s modern trends and styles.

Commenting on Mexico’s cultural tourism product, Manuel Díaz Cebrían, Regional Director, UK & Ireland, Mexico Tourism Board, London, said:

“Mexicans are very proud of their cultural heritage, one that is ever-present in our modern consciousness. We encourage visitors to Mexico to experience something over and above a ‘beach-based’ holiday, offering a perfect balance of sun, sea, culture and spirituality. This complete aesthetic and emotional experience is reflected in the ‘Aztecs’ exhibition journey and we are delighted that the public response has been so positive – 40,000 visitors within the first two weeks”.

“Many people automatically associate Mexico with Mayan culture although there are many more cultural influences that should be explored such as Aztec and Toltec, to name but a few. For us, each visitor to the exhibition is a potential visitor to Mexico”.

“To further encourage visitors to travel to Mexico, we’ve created a tourist route trailing Mexico’s cultural diversity, starting in Mexico City. In addition to a plethora of chic hotels and rejuvenated Latin spirit, the City offers a wealth of choice for the cultural aficionado. And this is just the beginning…”
